Şanlıurfa Neolithic Research Project, also known as Taş Tepeler, focuses on the period starting from the very beginning of settled life to the complete adaption of farming societies characterized by sedentism and food production. The primary aim of the project is to create an inventory of settlements, campsites, hunting grounds, and similarly-utilized sites from the 10th to the 7th millennium B.C., and to carry out archaeological excavations in some of those within a coordinated program in order to uncover the data that will allow a multidimensional understanding of the process. In this way, it will be possible to evaluate in detail how prehistoric societies transitioned into sedentary life. Paleoenvironmental research is also planned to understand the environment in which the sites are located by placing them in regional and chronological contexts better In addition to the interdisciplinary research, the project will also implement cultural heritage projects that will ensure the protection, conservation, and transfer of archaeological sites to the community. Traditional village architecture, traditional production methods that are disappearing, and the documentation of cultural values are among the topics covered by the project.
