Archaeological research, which creates the basis of the project, is consist of two studies. The first is the surveys that will enable the creation of a “Şanlıurfa Neolithic Site Inventory”. By doing intensive surveys in Şanlıurfa, especially in the plateau part of the region, it is aimed to identify different types of finds such as settlements, hunting grounds, or campsites and to create a common database together with previously known sites. On that note, it is planned to increase the number of surveys currently being carried out and to do intensive surveys in smaller areas by different teams.

The second scope was determined through archaeological excavations. The excavation projects should reflect the diversity of settlements on a chronological and regional scale so that data can be collected to reflect the different phases of the period, settlement size, function, and site selection. This approach aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the period with its different aspects.

Each of the archaeological research is an independent project. Therefore, there are unique research projects shaped by independent questions that overlap with the main objectives of the project. The focus and methodology of the research projects may differ depending on the research teams and the nature of the excavated sites. Despite common questions and objectives, as well as common team members and experts working on more than one project, it is thought that research that differs from each other in terms of research objectives and scope will improve the project.
